Focus on: Edge of Tomorrow

Warner Bros', Edge of Tomorrow starring Tom Cruise is the story of a soldier fighting in a war with aliens who finds himself caught in a time loop of his last day in the battle, though he becomes better skilled along the way.

Nvizible provided 400 VFX shots for this blockbuster and including the graphics for the holographic representation of the Mimics and Alphas displayed on a table top in the story.

The aliens in the main feature were visually too complex for the holographic representations. Digital production models were simplified and stylised to give them a diagrammatic, illustrative appearance. The design of these shots involved a 2D look development stage, for every shot in the sequence.  Animation was choreographed to work with the timing of live action, with three dimensional holograms and statistics transforming into postion across the table in context with the story. Texturing and shading played an important part in the design aethestics of the CG, before being composited with the graphics and crafted in the final shots.

The motion graphics work was designed by Chris Lunney, with all final VFX work handled by VFX Supervisor Matt Kasmir.
